Cookie is a small file that holds data sent by a server,
saved locally by your browser. Cookie doesn't have ability
to collect any data. It is not a program, i.e. it cannot
do any harm on its own. It is used chiefly by websites to
identify users who have previously registered or visited
the site.
'Tracking' Cookie
If information set by a server is shared across different
servers that cookie is called 'tracking cookie'. Tracking
cookies are used by big advertiser to track user's surfing
habits. Some people consider tracking cookies a privacy
risk.
